An Indian Head Massage provides a deep relaxation and release to the upper body area, particularly the scalp. It is especially beneficial for those of us who tend to hold tension in our face, head and jaw area.
With its roots in the Indian Ayurvedic Tradition, Indian Head Massages have been carried out for over 2000 years. Benefits include, soothing headaches and migraines by reducing stress and tension in the muscles, working with the upper 3 chakras to release and balance the energy in these areas, stimulates hair growth and health, relieves anxiety and depression, increases circulation and lymphatic drainage, improves sleep.
The treatment is carried out lying down on my comfortable, heated massage bed with relaxing essential oils burning. You will be given a choice between two beautiful aromatherapy massage oils which I mix myself. For a bespoke aromatherapy oil to target any specific issues, please contact me in advance and this can be provided at an additional cost.
I offer two versions of the Indian Head Massage, one is 30 minutes which includes the neck, upper shoulders, decolletage, scalp and face and the other is an extended 60 minute version that also includes the back neck and shoulders.

Indian Head Massage FAQ’s
The Indian Head Massage treatments I offer are either 30 minutes or 60 minutes. The 30 minute Indian Head Massage is carried out with you lying on your back, face up and focuses on the shoulders, neck, face and scalp. Whilst the 60 minute Indian Head Massage also includes the back and begins with you lying face down on the bed, before turning onto your back, this is ideal for those holding a lot of tension in their upper body area. Please allow 15 minutes either side of your massage for me to set-up, do a consultation and pack away.
You don’t need to do anything specific before your Indian Head Massage although I always think it’s beneficial to have 10 minutes of calm before you arrive for your treatment so that you get the most out of your massage.
During your Indian Head Massage you will be asked to go down to your knickers or boxer shorts and remove all jewellery, with hair tied back in a pony or clip. Your modesty will be maintained throughout the treatment using warm, soft blankets to ensure you are never inappropriately exposed. If you do not feel comfortable going down to your knickers or boxers please speak to me as I may be able to adapt the treatment to suite your needs or suggest an alternative treatment.
After your massage you will feel deeply relaxed, sleepy and often a little spaced out. Your body will feel relieved of tension and if you have had a deeper pressure, perhaps a little tender. It is always advisable to set aside some time after your treatment to sit and rest and make sure you drink lots of water for the rest of the day to stay hydrated and flush out any toxins.
Indian Head Massages work to have a calming and relaxing effect on the mind and body. Specifically focusing on the upper body they can provide great relief from issues such as jaw pain and headaches. Soothing your nervous system, calming the mind, whilst reducing stress and inflammation in the body. Indian Head Massages can improve sleep, reduce stress, anxiety and worry, lift mood and shift stuck energy in the body. Indian Head Massages also improve circulation, promote the removal of toxins from the body via lymphatic drainage, reduce muscle and joint pain and tension and improving mobility.
